Lead Pastor
Job Description for Lead Pastor role:
Who We Are
We are Capilano Christian Community Church (or CapChurch for short), a community of Christian believers who have been gathering on Vancouver British Columbia’s North Shore for more than 40 years.
The 450+ people who call CapChurch home represent a broad range of age groups (0 to 90+with a large portion of our community being young people and young families) and economic backgrounds (the unemployed to the independently wealthy), though we do not currently represent the ethnic diversity represented on the North Shore. We are a church that values community and are intentional about sharing our lives with one another – all the messy and broken bits along with our accomplishments and successes.
We are building poor so that we ensure we remain people rich, which is our way of explaining why we don’t own a building. We meet in rented facilities on Sunday and enjoy a rich community life in many ways and locations during the week.
Hang out with us for a while and you will discover a church community built on clear biblical values with our ministries and programs arising out of these values. By articulating our values and building on them we believe we are, in a sense, writing our history in advance. Besides our intentional pursuit of community, our efforts to live spiritually awake and fully human, we have some growing edges such as our multiyear Ugandan mission; our emerging social justice ministry; and our advocacy on behalf of those marginalized throughout Vancouver.
Capilano Christian Community is a non-denominational, independent church. We recognize our dependency on Jesus Christ and our interdependency with all Christian fellowships in our Lower Mainland area. Our statement of belief, the Nicene Creed, expresses our unity with every church that serves Jesus Christ and acknowledges the authority of the Scriptures. We participate both in co-operation with North Shore churches and participate in the sovereign working of God in our area.
The Leadership Circle is responsible for overall direction and governance at CapChurch. We are led primarily by two teams:
1. Pastoral and ministry team with the responsibility of day to day ministry.
2. Elders team (men and women with recognized gifts called to eldership) with the task of spiritual oversight and care of pastors and ministers.
Each member of the various teams is selected for spiritual, personal, and relational maturity, along with special gifts or skills needed by the team. The ability to submit to one another and work towards a common good is considered a high value.
Who You Are
You are a visionary leader with a track record of discerning how God is moving among His people. You are willing to take risks and try new things but apply biblical principles, wisdom and humility to decisions you make. You are entrepreneurial, kingdom minded and passionate about leading God’s people into a meaningful relationship with Him and others. You are a gatherer of people, a natural collaborator and have had success building and equipping strong teams.
You are comfortable but humble in your public profile as a primary leader. You are a gifted teacher and are skilled at providing one on one care. You have theological training, a strong understanding of scripture and clear theological positions.
You value creativity and foster it. As you discover where God is “bubbling up” in our community, you will help us focus our time, energy and resources in that direction.
