Newcomers

Are you new to CapChurch? Want to get connected?

Here are a couple of ways to make yourself known to us: Introduce yourself to Suzanne at the Welcome Desk. She will ask you if you would like to fill out a short blue form so that a pastor can be in touch with you. We will connect you to the right people so that you can begin forming friendships and join in the “giving and receiving” that is part of our relational faith community. Or contact the church administrator, Lynda Shaw at life@capchurch.ca for more information.

Here are few ideas on where to begin:

Welcome Table
At our welcome table on Sunday mornings is the first point of entry into getting information and letting us know you better

Coffee on Us
Please email life@capchurch.ca if you would like to meet with one of the Pastoral Team for coffee.

Connecting with Other Families
If you have children and teens to connect or other needs and questions, please let us know, so we can assist you and your family.

CapBlast
Weekly we send out our “CapBlast” this comes by email and lets you know what is happening in the Church community that week. It is a helpful way to have all the times, places and dates at your fingertips. If you are making CapChurch your new church home and would like to receive this email contact: life@capchurch.ca to ask to be put on the CapBlast list.

Cap 101 for Newcomers
These evenings are an opportunity for you to meet some Cappers including some of our Pastoral Team; find out about how CapChurch works; eat some great desserts; and ask any questions you may have. This is a great way to get connected in relationships at Cap. We schedule newcomers nights as needed throughout the year [usually 2 or 3]. If you are interested to come to the next one or if you would just like more information about CapChurch please email life@capchurch.ca

Check out the “Life Groups” section
On the Life Groups section you will find information about our home based gatherings where you can join with others to grow and develop skills for life and faith. All the Life Groups are lead by individuals in our community each with its own flavour. Most Life Groups meet weekly or bi-weekly though some meet less often. Contact Kim kim@capchurch.ca or John john@capchurch.ca or Shelley shelley@capchurch.ca to see which group might be a good fit for you. Another way is to visit one of our drop-in groups to get a sense of what some of our groups are like.

ECE

CapChurch has Early Childhood Education programs.

Cap Kids

CapKids (Kindergarten to Grade 4)

CapKids is our Sunday Morning program that consists of children ranging in age from Kindergarten through to grade 4. This is a place where your child will discover the character of God, experience community and be invited to engage in fun, interactive learning.

CapKids is a VERY exciting place to be sunday mornings. We have amazing volunteers who help make these mornings happens. We like to think that the hour our kids spend in CapKids is a time where they fully experience God’s amazing love for them through the care of their community.

Mission Statement for Capkids:
We at CapChurch believe each child is a unique blessing from God and desire that each child will know his/her value in God’s eyes.

Our Goals:
1. feel loved and valued by God and their church community
2. know Jesus as their forever friend and comforter
3. learn how God speaks to us through the Bible
4. experience church as a safe and fun place to learn
5. practice praying to their heavenly father

For more information please read What Capkids Offers document.

How CapKids operates:

Capkids rotates through a 6-week cycle

  • 4 weeks where we split into grade classes (k, 1, 2 & 3/4 split boys & girls) learning with our “Hand-On” Curriculum

CapKids uses the “Hands-On” Curriculum for all our class lessons. This curriculum is hands on activity based and has interactive bible stories which makes it a fun place to learn. We base our lessons on the knowledge that children learn by multiple exposure and by working with the “Hand-on” curriculum, we sure do have a variety of interactive fun to help understand and learn more about God.

CapKids has a five-year curriculum model aimed to cover major Old and New Testament stories.
Listed below are some topics/themes we cover over a 5 years span: Creation, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, David and Jonathan, Daniel, Ruth, Crucifixion and Resurrection, The First Christians, Jesus birth, How Jesus Cares, Who is God?, Prayer, Prophets and Serving God.

  • 1 week as a large group, ran by our Parents Group
  • 1 week as a large group, which is focused on we like to call “Act.Love.Walk”

Mini Youth (Grades 5-6)

Mini Youth is a community of grade 5-6 kids and their leaders.

We gather together every Sunday morning at Mulgrave during the main service to encounter Jesus, participate in creative projects, and play fun games together! This year’s team is led by Liz Baerg (our Youth Ministry Associate).

Our Grade 5-6’s also gather at least once a month for fun, social events such as laser tag, snow-tubing, etc.  And this year, our group will combine periodically with the Grade 3-4’s for exciting Mini-Camps at Memorial Rec Centre!

Some of the outcomes we envision for our Mini Youth include:

  • To know God’s Reality – seeing God in the world, and experiencing the Bible as a positive and primary way that God reveals Himself.
  • To embrace God’s Relevance – experiencing the faith community differently than school, and learning to live as God’s image-bearers.
  • To encounter God’s Relationality – Experiencing friendship with Jesus, and learning that faith is about relationship not rules.

For more info e-mail John Colpitts, our Youth Minister and Cap Youth Team Leader: john@capchurch.ca

Junior Youth (Grades 7-9)

Our Grade 7-9’s also gather every other Wednesday evening from 7-8:30 for a Bible Study / Home Group. From time to time we will also head out for fun, social events and activities.

Some of the outcomes we envision for our Jr. Youth include:

  • To know God’s Purpose – living as active participants in God’s Kingdom, and understanding that they are blessed to be a blessing.
  • To embrace God’s People – experiencing that community is life, and that involvement in intergenerational Christian community is for life.
  • To experience God’s Power – discovering their own faith, and experiencing personal transformation through the power of the Spirit.

Senior Youth (Grades 10-12)

Sr. Youth is a community of grade 10-12 young people and their leaders.

We gather together on Sunday mornings at Mulgrave during the main service, rotating between participating in the main service, meeting together for discussion, and helping out in areas such as Hospitality, CapKids, Worship, Sound, etc.

Our regular place of connection and growth is our weekly Monday night Bible study / Home group. We meet in a home to listen to God and one another, learn and discuss things that matter, eat great snacks, and laugh a lot!

This year we also have a schedule of events and adventures on Friday evenings, including joining with other churches for “Chapel”, heading out for activities, and enjoying meals and games nights hosted by Cap Church families.

Some of the outcomes we envision for our Sr. Youth include:

  • To know God’s Goodness – developing the ability to hear and experience God personally, and living with compassion and justice.
  • To embrace God’s Gifts – identifying their own unique leadership gifts, and living generously with their resources.
  • To embody God’s Grace – loving others as themselves, prioritizing life, and participating in the community that gives life.

Life Groups

Home based gatherings of people are where our community grows and begins to work out the skills of life and faith. All the Home Groups are lead by individuals in our community and therefore each Home Group is a little different, each with its own flavour. Some focus on studying the Bible (perhaps following the sermons from the Sunday service or working through a book of the bible); Some read and discuss a current book on an aspect of Christian life or worldview. Many groups are friendship focused and emphasize some form of prayer and sharing lives. Most Home Groups meet weekly or bi-weekly though some meet less often.

Contact CapChurch for more information about Home Groups.

If you’re not finding a group to connect with, please contact us‎ and we’ll help you find a way to connect with Cap.
