Sunday Service Format Update

This fall we tried some new things to live into our vision to be formed and connected…

How we gather shapes who we become . . .

As a church without a denomination or a building, our richest asset has always been our people – a collection of characters with honest and sincere faith, big hearts, and the gift of not taking ourselves too seriously. Whenever we find ways to gather, connect, and engage with one another, we are richer for it. This is part of why we have been creating more space for social connection at the beginning of our services recently.

At the same time, we recognize that many of us are more shy or introverted by nature, or perhaps just value opportunities for quiet, reflective spaces in our busy weeks. Therefore, as we have evaluated this past month and processed feedback from a number of you, we have made some decisions that we trust will give more life and more freedom to each of us as we gather together on Sundays.

  1. We will continue to begin our Sunday mornings with a connection time in the foyer sharing food, coffee, and conversation. We will however shorten this time to a maximum of 15 minutes (from 20).
  2. We will open the door to the main auditorium at 10am for any and all who wish instead to enjoy some quiet space for prayer, reflection, or preparation for worship.
  3. We will continue to have kids and youth head straight to their classrooms after the connection time in the foyer, but we will create space for them to join us for part or all of the musical worship time at the end of the main service.
  4. Once a month, we will come together across the generations to celebrate communion together and share stories around the table. Kids will head to their classrooms at 10:45 and youth will remain for the entire service. We also hope to continue service delicious cinnamon buns and Delany’s coffee on these Sundays.

Our prayer is that Sundays at Cap will provide you with opportunities to encounter God’s presence, compassion, and generosity in ways that form you for lives of presence, compassion, and generosity every day of the week. Thank you for taking this journey with us.

With love and gratitude,

John & Kim
