Not Everyone Who Says, “Lord, Lord”…

Exploring the Words of Jesus

Kingdom of God

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21-23

After watching this 10 minute video from Todd, consider the following questions:

Is this text better thought of as a warning or as a comfort?

If a warning:

  • What is the general warning that is being issued here by Jesus?
  • Who is it directed to?

If a comfort:

  • Who is Jesus encouraging / comforting?
  • What is the encouragement about?

In what ways have some people who say “Lord Lord” actually prevented others from knowing God?

What do you think of the end of the passage when Jesus tells those listening that he will send those “Lord Lord” people away saying that he never knew them?
